The Pharmacy Show 2019’s theme was ‘Survive and Thrive’, this theme was chosen in light of the new NHS contract and the announcement that there would be no increase in funding for pharmacy. The Locate a Locum team are here to give you an inside track on the other themes and trends we noticed at the Pharmacy Show, first up what were we showing off?

Driving Efficiency

At stand PI25 our team was showing off our latest developments that help drive efficiency in pharmacy organisations. One such development is our Workforce Management Platform that allows pharmacy owners to have the right people in the right place at the right time. Along with our locum booking platform, real-time reporting and compliance solutions we believe we can improve operational efficiency in your organisation.

That’s not all, we also were showing pharmacy professionals how they can find high paying shifts in minutes using our new and improved App!

Hannah Skinner, our Business Development Manager, presented our solution in the Business Theatre. If you missed the presentation but want to know more you can email Hannah directly (hannah@locatealocum.com).

What other themes did we notice?

Marketing in Pharmacy - One topic that was discussed repeatedly by both delegates and exhibitors was Marketing. Pharmacy professionals were asking how they could improve their personal marketing and pharmacy owners were asking how they could get their organisation noticed in a competitive field. Saam Ali (Pharmacy Mentor) gave a presentation looking into practical techniques pharmacy professionals can use to drive traffic to their pharmacy. We also completed a blog on this that you can read here.

The Rise of CBD - Once again there were many exhibitors showing off their CBD oils, gels sprays and tablets. We counted over 10 stands showcasing their products. This is a trend that seems to be here to stay and we look forward to see how it develops in the industry.

Going Paperless - Going paperless was again mentioned in various presentations and exhibition stands. There is a drive to improve efficiency by making all admin and transactions digital. Going paperless can help with compliance and general administration among other benefits. The NHS digital stand ran the following survey

‘Is going paperless in community pharmacy a dream or reality?'

Dream 55% Reality 45%

what do you think? A dream? Or Reality? Let us know in the comments.

The Pharmacy show was extremely successful and there was a huge amount of interest in innovating by adopting technology. Technology and innovation are the two main factors in helping you thrive in the pharmacy industry.
