As pharmacists, we are very good at looking after our patients, but not always so good at looking after ourselves. We put others first, but we have to remember that we can’t pour from an empty cup.

The third Monday of January is dubbed “Blue Monday”, supposedly the most depressing day of the year. Here are some top tips to get you through the Monday blues and for looking after yourself during the work day;

  • Start your day right. Planning your route to work to ensure you don’t have to rush, will set you up for a smoother day. It will also allow for that all important Starbucks trip.

  • Snacks- whether it is a healthy banana for 11 am, to fit with your New Year’s Resolutions, or your favourite chocolate bar for the 4pm rush, it is always good to have those emergency snacks at the ready.

  • Pockets- underappreciated far too often, that suit or blazer pocket will avoid the headache of looking for the CD keys.

  • Take your lunch break and get outside. Fresh air will help you feel refreshed and getting those steps in will also help you hit that step count.

  • After work plans- a post work coffee with a pal is a fantastic way to end your day, whether it results in ranting or raving, it’s a great way to relax and relieve stress after a hectic day.
