Back in early May, team Locate a Locum took part in the Mash Direct Belfast Marathon. Two relay teams completed legs of the marathon across Belfast in aid of Air Ambulance NI. We are so proud to announce that our fundraising efforts raised a fantastic total of £1050.

We would like to thank each and every one of our donators for their support of our fundraising. The Air Ambulance NI charity saves lives every day across Northern Ireland and this money will go towards life-saving equipment for the team. You can read about all the work they do here.

Pearce's experience

Pearce McConkey shared his experience of completing the marathon and why supporting Air Ambulance NI was particularly important to him.

“I didn’t do any preparation as far as running but I do play football and I do CrossFit 3 days a week so I was confident my cardio levels were where they needed to be to do the leg. I did the team relay with my last company in October 2021 and completed the last leg (5.2 miles) without preparation so again I knew I wouldn’t have any issues

My fiance is in her first trimester of pregnancy and craves Chinese food so I actually spent the evening before eating crispy chicken in black bean sauce and washed it down with a bag of twirl bites! I also had a chaotic morning the day of the race as Kimya’s bus didn't come due to the diversions and therefore I gave her a lift down to her starting point and hit every roadblock on the way to and from!

My takeaway from my performance was I paced myself a little too much. I wasn’t fully aware what route my leg would take me and didn’t realise until I came out of the waterworks that I would be heading straight from there to Yorkgate for the changeover. Once I heard a bystander shout “last corner, one big push” I sprinted the whole way down duncairn gardens towards the changeover.

The crew was probably instrumental in saving that man’s life and that experience has always left a lasting impression on me.

Air Ambulance is an amazing cause- I remember walking home from work 2 years ago along the Sydenham Road in Belfast and watching the air ambulance descend onto the road to tend to a motorcycle driver who had just been involved in a collision with an HGV. There were plenty of onlookers watching everything unfold. The crew was probably instrumental in saving that man’s life and that experience has always left a lasting impression on me.”
