You’ve filled out the registration form on the Locate a Locum website, you’ve applied for your first shift, confirmed your identity and you haven’t been accepted. This is the end of the world as we know it! Only, it’s not!

1, Apply for more shifts

The average success rate for winning locum shifts is 23%. Meaning that you should be applying for at least 5 shifts at a time to maximise your chances of being hired by the pharmacy. With Locate a Locum, it’s easy to plan out the next few weeks or months, especially with our Locum Diary feature, so don’t leave it until the last minute to apply for a shift.

Locate a Locum also works just as well on a computer, but nothing can beat the instant communication you can get with a phone. Stay notified when jobs are posted by downloading the app, and make sure to be the first to apply.

2. Speak to an expert locum coordinator & let us know your availability

Using an online booking platform isn’t for everyone. We’ve put together a team of expert recruiters, to help you with your locum career. Get in touch and tell us your availability, let us know where you want to work, when you want to work and our guys will help you with shift applications.

The Locate a Locum app also has an availability calendar which you should attempt to keep as up to date as possible. 3. Obtain as many accreditations as you can!

The more accreditations you have, the more marketable you are as a pharmacist! When you get knocked back for a shift, this is nothing personal and is not necessarily reflective of your ability as a pharmacist. When this happens, the shift has generally been filled internally.

To ensure that the odds are in your favour of finding work on your available dates, we advise you to apply for as many shifts as possible on these dates. In order to increase your chances of being booked we would advise, completing as much CPD as possible and gaining accreditations such as MUR & Flu Jab training. These will significantly increase your chances of being successfully accepted into more shifts.
