We’ve put together advice from pharmacists for pharmacists on how best to approach your career after the GPhC assessment. This advice is suitable for both locum pharmacists and those of you looking for full-time permanent roles.

Let’s get to it

• Knowledge comes with time, if you are unsure or don’t know a certain query, look it up or ask your team for advice and guidance.

• Speaking of the team, be friendly and approachable to all members of staff and the wider community. You will learn something from all of them.

• Don’t be shy to ask your patients questions, knowing as much as possible about a patient’s medical history and lifestyle is important for you to make a decision on their treatment. They’ll appreciate you taking the time to find out the issue that you can help.

• Don’t let anyone rush you, you’re recently qualified and want to make sure that everything is correct for your patients. Don’t feel under pressure to fill a script or offer a quick consultation with a patient, take your time and you’ll be thankful you’ve made the right decision.

• Sleep, pharmacy is a challenging and demanding environment and requires a lot of concentration and brainpower. You want to make sure you’re as refreshed as possible for your shifts to ensure patient safety and the high industry standard expected of you
